My Sweet Potato Obsession!

I'm obsessed with sweet potatoes! In fact, I don't think there is a sweet potato dish that I don't love.

I love sweet potatoes in my brownies.

I love sweet potato casserole on the holidays.

Whole roasted sweet potatoes just on their own never get old.

And of course, who doesn't love some sweet potato fries?!

Today I'm going to share with you how I make oil free sweet potato fries that are super flavorful and even crispy... just liked the fried ones!

Here's how I do it...

Ingredients for Oil Free Sweet Potato Fries

Technically, you really only need sweet potatoes to make oil-free sweet potato fries. However, if you want to add some flavor, I recommend adding some spices and salt!

Here are my favorite seasonings to add to my homemade sweet potato fries:

That's it!

You could also use a pre-made seasoning such as taco seasoning.

Or make some sweet sweet potato fries by using cinnamon!

The possibilities are endless so don't be shy and get creative!

How to Make Oil Free Sweet Potato Fries

Baked fries aren't anything new, but this method of preparing them makes them super soft on the inside, crispy on the outside and perfect for dipping in your favorite condiment.

Maybe some Homemade Ketchup?!

Below are the instructions for making sweet potato fries without oil at home:

Instructions

STEP 1: Preheat your oven to 400°F / 205°C.

STEP 2: While the oven is preheating, wash your sweet potatoes and cut them into fries (or wedges if you prefer!)

STEP 3: Place the cut up sweet potatoes into a large mixing bowl and sprinkle over your spices of choice as well as salt and pepper.

STEP 4: Toss everything well to combine.

STEP 5: Using a wire rack over a baking tray, lay the potato wedges out in a single layer (see the photo below).

Step 6: Bake the sweet potatoes in the oven for about 40 minutes, or until browned and crispy on the outside.

Pro Tip: Using a wire rack over a baking tray will allow your sweet potato fries to crisp on all sides. Alternatively, you can place the fries directly on a baking tray lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Best French Fry Condiments (other than Ketchup!)

In my opinion, fries NEED dip!

And as I'm sure you know, ketchup isn't the only dip that pairs well with french fries.

Let me share some of my favorite, unique dips to pair with these oil-free sweet potato fries!

  • Honey Mustard (vegan of course!)
  • BBQ sauce
  • Super Simple Vegan Nacho Cheese
  • Vegan Ranch Dressing
  • Gochujang
  • Vegan Milkshakes
  • Vegan Mushroom Sauce
  • Hummus
  • Vegan aioli (add Sriracha for a kick!)
  • Sweet Chili Sauce
  • Leftover Curry

Made it for a second time. It is our new favorite. The guests went nuts for it at our party. We made a huge vat of it. We were asked who the caterer was who made it. I said “I did!” The complement goes to the creator of this post. Thank you for sharing.

I love your blog and recipe ideas. I'm very lucky to be in early remission from lymphoma. One important lifestyle change I've made is being much more conscious about the food I prepare and eat. And the sweet potato fries are wholesome, simple to make and delicious. Enjoy your adventures in China. With gratitude, Jim

My husband cannot do spicy foods at all. What other spices could I use?

    Reply

    • Faith says

Hi Betty! You could always just stick with salt like classic french fries. Rosemary always tastes delicious with potatoes too! If he can handle cumin, you could also try just omitting the chili powder. Hope that helps!

Thank you! I'm slowly putting together whole foods we can eat as a family at meal times as my baby turns into a toddler 🙂 This works perfectly for everyone's taste! I just used dried hers and cinnamon (no salt) & even I was shocked at how tasty it was that way (I'm a huge salt addict)!

I'm sweet enough, but I made them tonight. Over the weekend, I tried the mushroom sauce with salmon. I added a jalapeno and red pepper to it. Spice is also nice 🙂

I could eat these every day and be perfectly happy. Some ketchup and a big plateful, that's my kinda simple dinner 🙂 I go through phases with potatoes too--sometimes I'm all about mashed, then baked, then cubed and roasted, they're so versatile. But fries are always good because of the ease of dunking of dipping 🙂 Oil-free but still perfectly browned and crispy, these look fantastic!
